Welcome

Acoustic Americana & Blues

Acoustic Americana with a nod to soulful women writers. You'll hear the likes of Emmylou, Bonnie, Colvin, Baez, Carlile and maybe a few of her own.

Sturdy stock. The blood in these veins is high-grade red dirt, stirred by ancient New River water, alongside Lead Mine Road, Virginia Rural Route 663. Not much Barbie Doll here. That pretty much sums up this music too... tunes chosen by a journeying woman crossed over the half-century mark. This is a soulful, sometimes rough-edged authentic sound in tunes I have written or covers I wish I had written. Collectively, they paint an American experience with a bend toward the feminine. Savvy writing and harmony are my passion.

Collaboration
I've had the good fortune to collaborate with some of the finest musicians in our region. You just never know who will come along!

NOTHING BUT THE WATER:  Americana  Blues                                                               Marte Yerkins and I had known each other in musical circles for a while before we sat down to explore each of our next chapters. His playing history reaches back over 40 years! Marte is proving to be a stellar musical companion and a dang solid bass player! We made a "pact" to do the work on the front end and get clear about what we wanted to accomplish. This journey started well over a year ago. Rick Domion (guitar/vocals) and Marte reconnected over a class reunion in 2021 - these Pittsburg boys were in a band together back in High School and are now again. Lucky me!!

RYAN CHAPPELL and I were a rocking little duo playing smaller venues and festivals. We began learning each others music sometime around 2010 after a chance meeting at a local open mic and played together for about 7ish years in various incarnations. Ryan's extraordinary guitar skills and sparse harmonies added just the right polish. In 2010 we were awarded Charlotte Music Awards Folk Artists of the Year.

FOURTH CREEK BAND: A James Taylor Tribute
Our friend, Steve Roy, had a dream of performing a night of JT music and asked Ryan if he would be interested. We both said he was crazy, knowing it would mean a tremendous amount of work. Well, we all did that work and musical paths crossed at the right times to bring us additional members to round out the sound. We and our audiences had sooo much fun with this! We were Steve Roy (lead vocals), Ryan Chappell (lead guitar), Richard Wood (sax and flute), Joey Williams (bass), and me (harmonies and light percussion). Wow, that was fun!

WRECKING BALL: Cowboy Ambient Rock
We were four veteran musicians - all writers, all having been down a multitude of musical roads over the years. Think Emmylou, Buddy Miller, Patty Griffin and Reckless Kelly with a little Jeff Beck! We played several festivals and even opened for Sam Bush's Charlotte Show, Fall of 2012! We were Douglas Barnhill (lead guitar), Brian Doell (bass), Scott McGlauphlin (drums), and me (rhythm guitar and vocals). Sure miss those guys... people move on and away...

HEART STRINGS - Gracie Building at Barium Springs, 153 Frazier Loop, Troutman, NC

Music Speaks Series at Children’s Hope Alliance Heartstrings Program showcases musicians sharing inspiring stories and music. This event is FREE and open to the community. This incredible organization is making art and music accessible to kids - many of whom are underpriveleged in ways that they might not otherwise have access to the arts. I am beyond tickled to have connected with these amazing and passionate people. They are doing life changing work. Come sing a little, laugh a little and enjoy community over a few tunes.

JUST ME

MY LIVING ROOM, Mooresville, NC

Prior to this date, there hadn't been any formal gigs for a while. Ryan and I had morphed into the James Taylor Tribute then that ran it's course. I played up home in Virginia when I could. I don't mind telling you it stung to not be working on our own material... to not be growing musically. Then COVID hit and few venues were allowed to have gatherings. March 2020 was the second time "The Day the Music Died" in my lifetime. I licked my wounds and hiked hard for several years and remembered who I am and how important music is to me and how "life gets mighty precious, when there's less of it to waste" (B Raitt). I also remembered how I fought when it felt like the music in my life died one heartbreaking time before.

With a ton of help, I am playing again and offering this music to you again... beautiful people in a live audience. I said to my current band mates, "this time it's about me and what I want. I will rarely compromise again. While your opinion matters, this is not going to be a democracy. I know what I want and I am / we are running out of time. If you want to come along, it will be an amazing wild ride!" And damn, so far they've stayed. Better photos to come.
